There’s more than one way to treat a cat and run a vet clinic. In 2009, the husband and wife team of Doug Krahn and Dr. Kate Kewish teamed up to open Ellerslie Pet Hospital. While Kate has the medical credentials, Doug brought a strong business background to the table. “I think Doug’s strength was he never worked in a vet practice,” says Kate. “In vet practices, things are done in a certain way because that’s how they’ve always been done. Doug came in with a fresh approach.”
Doug says that he and Kate work so well together because she handles the medicine and he handles the business. “Most people don’t understand how important good management is," he adds. "You have to be diligent daily, hourly, with how you run things.”
