Though he has the training and background of a commercial artist and illustrator, Mark Glavina has always been a creator, inventor and entrepreneur at heart – never one to be satisfied with filling orders and painting by numbers.
“We started in the back of a bird-and-nature cottage back in 1997 and it sort of evolved from framing into the art supply retail and art classes,” says Mark, owner of Phoenix Art Workshop. “I always said to myself that I would only teach if I had an approach that was unique and different from everyone else. So I really went back to my design days at Capilano College and understanding visual communication, and have built all my classes around this concept of visual literacy and visual communication and how it applies to fine art rather than commercial art.”
