I have been going here off and on for 20+ years. In fact I am going tonight (March 8,2013) doing the traditional take-out.
They have perfected the art of perfectly battered fish and fresh hand cut fries.
You can't go wrong. Place is pretty basic, but you're not really there for atmosphere. You are there for the delicious fish and chips, and that's exactly what you get.

My 5 star rating is for the food and service. Romero's isn't a fancy place but the food is delicious Authentic Italian made from scratch. Great value for a delicious meal. The service is excellent too. You may need to request your red wine be chilled for a few minutes. It was a warmer than ideal temp.

I've been here before and I'll be back again. I had the pollack with fries and I think it might be the best fish I ever had and the fries are excellent. I had the three piece and it was way too much to eat at once.They've done some renovations since I was there last too.

Another delicious meal at Umberto's last night, with great service, a quiet table, and an unpretentious atmosphere. A side note, but important, they hit just the right note with the background music. Smooth jazz at just enough volume to enjoy. It was fairly quiet for a Thursday night, but the other half dozen or so tables were also filled with diners expressing their appreciation for a good meal.
Beef carpaccio was, like all the dishes, the perfect size portion. My husband and I shared it well as the bruschetta, which was a little too cheesy for me but perfect for him. The chef salad is a great mix of greens and veg with a nice vinaigrette. The ostrich and kangaroo - what can I say - grilled/sauteed just beautifully and mouthwateringly delicious. The Shiraz reduction was a very nice accompaniment to the kangaroo. Both entrees were served with roasted veg and potatoes, nicely seasoned, as well as a charming little fresh vegetable relish/slaw on radicchio. Shared a bottle of 2009 Rosemount Cab Shiraz, chosen from the small but interesting wine list, proved a good choice. We lingered over tiramisu and flourless chocolate hazelnut cake, preferring the tiramisu. The "Umberto" specialty coffee was a lovely finish to the meal. Ingredients were fresh, attention was paid to presentation, and the service was very attentive yet not intrusive. We will definitely be back. (I will try the seafood pasta next time - 3 of the table of 6 near us ordered it as their favorite)

I love this place! It's a small store front family restaurant. As we walked in the door, on the left, is a huge fish shaped menu, virtually from floor to ceiling and hand printed in chalk. It took several minutes to read but was well worth the time. We were greeted by the proprietor, Darcy, who showed us to our table. We talked for a bit and discussed the menu as she described her featured items. I asked about the chips (french fry style). She uses fresh, hand cut, russet potatoes deep frying them to a shade darker than golden brown. These are the chips I have only dreamed of, since childhood, so many years ago. (Today, almost all are frozen, yuck.) The white fish is from the deep cold waters of the Northern Great Lakes No bones about it. The caesar salad was crisp with a tasty dressing. My double order of fish and chips were good for two but perfect for me. No regrets! The cold slaw was finely chopped and delicious Although this is an older building, the washrooms were clean and tidy. We were only in the Wiarton area a total of four days but we liked the fish and chips so much, we went back for a second dinner.

This is the greatest Fish & Chips I have ever had. I lived in Shelburne and would go down to Orangeville just to eat here. I am actually going to stop in tonight an eat there. Everything I have tried here is so good, I think its because of how often they change the oil and quality of food <3 LOVE IT :)

Went here recently for a friday night out. Everything was perfect from the minute we walked in , until the minute we left. Our waitress, Maria , was outstanding. It was nice to walk in to a restaurant and be welcomed like family. We always enjoy the warm buns, it gives us something to munch on while waiting for our meal. We ordered the haddock and chips. The meal came out quick and piping hot. It was the best fish and chips we have had in recent memory. To top it off the apple crumble was exceptional. Kudos to Red Lobster and the staff for a job well done. Will be back soon.

My daughter and I went for lunch. Our family and friends have been going since they first opened. Food and service is always great!! We enjoy trying something new they have on tap and have yet to be disappointed. Today they were full due to a local hockey tournament. Our lunch was missing a few items and took a little longer than usual, but we received fresh meals quickly. What impressed us the most was how the staff and manager handled the situation. This restaurant and their staff are amazing!

Best Caribbean In Brantford
I’m a jerk.
At least that’s what I’d be if I went with the age old adage, “You are what you eat.” That’s because I just had the pleasure of dining on some of the most fantastic jerk I’ve ever taken a whiff of. It came from Someplace Else. I know, it sounds like a bad joke.
It is a real place though, just a short walk from campus down Dalhousie Street (across from the Expositor building.) It is home to some of Brantford’s finest Caribbean cuisine.
I decided on testing out the talents of the kitchen staff after reading their take out menu that boasted the best chicken in Brantford.
When I walked in the door there was little in the way of a warm welcome. There was no one around! I waited five minutes until I heard movement in the back. I went to the kitchen area to search for some help
“Can I get an order of jerk chicken please,” I said.
“Ya Mon,” said the perfectly accented Jamaican peeling potatoes. (Of course he said “Ya Mon,” I wouldn’t make that up. )
So my wait began. I sat at the bar and watched Judge Judy.
Judy and I spent seven minute together before my jerk was ready. I handed my ten dollar bill in exchange for the bagged Styrofoam box filled with an utterly enticing aroma. The box was coming with me. It’s called take out.
I bid the Jamaicans farewell and stepped out into the unseasonably warm October sun. I cantered down the street. Alright, it was more of a trot. I was hungry okay.
I found a table at work (I was early) and sat down to enjoy the jerk. I’d prepared myself with water since by definition jerk is muy caliente (that was the definition in my handy Spanish dictionary at least.) As I popped open the polystyrene package, a steamy cloud of jerk aroma wafted to my nostrils, where I took them in. My brain registered, “Yum.”
First of all, the colour was phenomenal. Rice with beans, a Jamaican-style coleslaw and a fabulously laid out hunk of perfectly seasoned and browned jerk chicken served up a meal for my eyes. I dug in.
My digging couldn’t come fast enough. “Where have you been all my life?” I asked the spicy chicken dish. It didn’t answer, so I ate it. Tender and moist is what comes to mind. More like perfectly tender and absolutely the juiciest chicken I’ve ever had (sorry Mom.) The spiciness ran circles around my tongue, enticing me to take a drink of high quality H20. It wasn’t too spicy though, and the rice and beans and coleslaw served as a perfect balance to the intense flavours of the chicken. I don’t even like coleslaw, but this was different.
I endeavoured to eat the entire serving, but it was too much. This is definitely a worthwhile meal for a student trying to make ends meet. Someplace Else offers a fantastic outlet for those inclined to trying and appreciating other nation’s foods. It’s an inexpensive meal packed full of flavor that will make your buds in the tongue department wake up from their grilled-cheese-induced slumber.
This is definitely a must have dish at Someplace Else.

We dined at the Siamese Gecko last evening for our anniversary. The menu had plenty of options, you could choose from curries, stir frys, and soups. After each meal title, there is a ranking of how spicy the dish is starting at not spicy going up to very, very spicy. I chose item 25-2 (sorry, the name escapes me) because it was under the very, very spicy and it certainly was. Even with my tongue on fire, there was an amazing amount of flavour. It was served on a platter with chicken, green beans, sweet red pepper, Thai basil, kaffir lime and crushed hot peppers. My wife had a squash curry that was delightfully creamy and the squash melted in your mouth. It was a non spicy dish with some sweetness in it and again, plenty of flavour. The prices are excellent, most dishes range from 9.99 to 11.99 and we both brought home half of our dinners. Meals do not come with rice or noodles, they are extra. However it was only 1.99 for a bowl of rice that was more than adequate and the whole cost of the meal was very affordable. Service was adequate, the restaurant was clean including washrooms. We both highly recommend!

Take no notice to the previous review with the complaint about the service. Anyone who has run/ worked in a restaurant in its beginning stages 5weeks-12 weeks, understands how hard it is to work all the kinks out, and if they have ever worked in a restaurant in Collingwood, how hard it is to actually find good staff. FYI none of the staff present when the restaurant first opened work there anymore.
I meet friends here every Friday; best food in collingwood hands down with the most reasonable prices. Yes there are other places to get fish and chips; if you a) want to pay $20 for a piece of batter, not fish, or b) want to risk food poisoning from a take out restaurant where cleanliness doesn't really seem to matter (the restaurant and staff).
Would DEFINITELY recommend!

There aren't many places in the area where one can get fish & chips, unless they drive to Barrie and go to Fancies Fish & Chips. Blue Water Fish & Chips is a small restaurant with a tired decor. Mind you there are historical photos of boats that have travelled Georgian Bay & the Great Lakes and are interesting to look at..
We love the halibut served here. While the portion size is small it is extremely tasty, with mild tasting halibut and a golden batter. After the second or third bite you can taste & feel the grease but isn't that to be expected with deep fried fish? I've never eaten fish & chips that I haven't tasted the grease.
We hate it when the restaurant is closed for vacation. We love eating here and they even have lots of newspapers and reading material for those of us that prefer to read while we're eating.
All we've ever ordered has been the fish & small chips or else we'll order 2 fish and a small chip each and we never go away hungry.

We went here tonight as a family for a simple family dinner. I am very impressed by the clean quiet family atmosphere. Then came the menus that were filled with very fair priced items for dinner for all of us. When dinner came out I was absolutely positively impressed. There is no doubt that a lot of thought and creativity went into every item. We will definitely be back!! Thank you so much for such a great little treasure so close to home!!
