The BBQ duck and BBQ pork were both fantastic! The service was quick and the portions were good. It was very reasonably priced. Will be back soon!
Love eating here during happy hour. The only down side to this place is that they charge you a tea fee.
Great place for Dim Sum and tradional or classic Chinese food. Prices are good too!
The service was poor, just had dim sim there and the so call captain was rude! I usually tip them good .. but not this time ... then I was remind/told that I need to give 10% tips!!! Hmmm !!!!!
Food quality went down. Everything was lacking in flavor including the bbq pork and roast duck. Customer service sucks. Manager was yelling over the phone and asked me to return the food so he can give me a little less. Really? Unreal. You would be foolish to eat there!
For the price you pay, you actually get decent quality food! I usually go for early dim sum or 'afternoon tea' dim sum, both of which are considered their 'happy hour' so the dim sum is cheaper! I particularly enjoy the fried squid tentacles (unlike alot of other dim sum places, this dish is not battered). Just thinking of the delectable soy-sauce and mixed spices infused in the tentacles makes my mouth water! The curry baby squid is a hit and miss. When it's good, it's gooooooooood! but sometimes it comes out soggy and mushy... Their BBQ meats are also quite good, you can tell by the number of people coming in just for their BBQ meats. I normally get their BBQ Pork (Char Siu) or Roasted Pig. Careful not to leave the roast pig in the take-out box for too long, or the crispy skin would go soggy... :( My rating is based on my best experience with Sam Woo.
June 11th,2011 @ 12.05pm my group of three and The owner of AJISAI(Japanese Restaurant)with wife and his son(4 yrs/old)sat across from my table. The order: Tea $1.40/1-bbq pork $7.50/1-wonton soup $5.00/1-beef with baby bok choy $13.00/3-steam rice $5.10/6 dim sums $19.20 total $57.86. Food: Was perfect from soup that served 3(9 wontons in it) to beef that had a lot on top of baby bok-choy. I paid for whole meal(my turn) and front manager was my waiter very polite gave him $60 flat for this YummmY meal.
I have been a customer of Sam Woo for over 15 years, probably since they opened! I am there at least 2-3 times a week! It's one of the most consistent Chinese restaurants in Mississauga. They serve some of the nicest BBQ roast pork or 'Char Siew' in the GTA. The roast crispy pork or 'siew yoke' and roast duck or 'siew narp' is very nice too. The TIm Sum is OK. I have had better but at a higher price. The 2:30pm specials are the best time to go. Arrive at 2:15pm to avoid the rush especially on weekends! My favorite is the spicy squid tentacles. $2.10 for a small plate is great value. The Cantonese food is well done too. I like the Peking Duck and lobster specials. You get free daily soup and free desert during dinner which if combined with prudent ordering can make for a reasonably priced dinner outing for a family of 6.
great bbq and wonderful dimsum, regardless of the atmosphere or service (which, admittedly, does leave quite a bit to be desired!). dinner is pretty good too--really enjoyed when they used to have their Wednesday peking duck special..too bad it is now gone.
If you know how to speak chinese then i think you be serve better! I am chinese but was born in canada. The service is horrible first off the waiter don't understand english then the way they set the plate chopstick and napkins is scary . They throw the plate at you with wet chopstick and very cheap on napkins .I waited 45 minute for food and it came out wrong order. The waiter got upset when i asked for napkins, the waiter is very rude , the women who sit at the counter take forever to get your bills. I will never visit there again!
This restaurant may have better food than most Chinese restaurants in mIssissauga (those living in the area know what I am talking about)... however, the service at that restaurant is awful... That owner lady sitting behind the counter is the worse... even the waiters are snappy and rude.. I vowed never to go there again.... I rather drive further to Markham and Scarborough and pay for better food!
I have been to Sam Woo several times, the service is great because all persons will serve you and you can ask them for anything at anytime. My best experience with Sam Woo was a few years back when I took 5 other people and it was just after 11:30pm. The Cook and Owner invited us in and told us to order whatever we wanted and we sat and ate and they told us to take our time. They sat at another table and waited on us and it was just a pleasure to know that they care so much to make it a great ending to a long day. I frequently visit this restaurant, they are clean and I even took my Mother and her friend there and they enjoyed it very much. All of my friend's that I take go and visit again because they love the food, it's quality so whether my friend, family or myself dine in or take out, and we mostly dine in, we enjoy it all the time because we know that sometimes it may take a few minutes to be served but we have the patience because they are always quite busy. Thank you
I have been there 20 times the last 10 years. The services of the server are average but the main cashiers (women)were always horrible. They made you stand up the cashier for 5mins before they take you order or newspaper changes. I feel that it's very rude and disrespect to have customers to be standing and waiting at the counter for a very long time while she was only organize other miscellaneous stuff. However, the BBQ take out section staffs are quite nice and friendly. From now on, I order takeout and bbq from them instead of dine-in. P.S. I am a chinese as well.
There are some weeks were the barbecue pork is cooked perfectly. However, this varies week to week. There are weeks when my barbecue pork is overcooked to the point of burnt partially and dry. Very unsatisfied! The service I received last time was horrible. I arrived earlier than some others but was served last. I clearly know that they had just arrived. Very disappointed. I would rather order from some where else.
I'm a frequent visitor to this restaurant. Being a Cantonese myself, I can say that their food is quite authentic (although I'm sure they serve Canadian-Chinese dishes as well). I've never had problems with their services although I agree that they can get quite busy sometime. There was that one time that they forgot to put our order into their system so we waited half an hour with no food being served. They were however very apologetic and immediately rushed our order upon realizing the mistake.
I really don't know why a lot of people criticized Sam Woo. From a Taiwanese/Chinese perpective, Sam Woo is a classic Cantonese restaurant serving descent Cantonese dishes. Don't expect to get descent Kung-Pao chicken here - this is not what you are looking for. If you expect Cantonese dishes, Sam Woo should not disappoint you. Service was good during our visit - perhaps because they were not busy. I was terrified by many other reviews regarding their service, but figured out it was not that bad at all. We'd come again.
the food was okay. last time i went there the service was not as bad as stated below but they certainly can do better. i found the servers very attentive but i dont like it when they speak chinese to each other. i think its rude to customers. other than that, its an okay restaurant.
the food was delicious my family couldn't get enough of it.. trying new Chinese culture, with the tea cups and the chop sticks they just loved it... the food was in fact good but i think it depends on the persons taste preference and the food they chose... i have ordered in though and i don't like the service they give at all... not only did they screw up the order but they gave it to us cold and extreamly late
I went to the take-out section at lunch to pick up some barbecued meats. It was really fresh. They weren't stingy with bad cuts either. The roast duck was meaty and soft, and the BBQ pork was not fatty and tasted really fresh.
The food is very good. The service is somehow lacking. The previous kid who came for party and wanting food without MSG in non-specifically mentioned No MSG, is impossible!! They should have party in the park and bring their own food!!
