My boyfriend and I went to Toula for Winterlicious. We arrived ten minutes early for our 7:30 reservation so they sat us in their lounge and offered us drinks while we waited. At 7:30 there was a line-up of people waiting at the front desk and they were all seated before us. I wasn't impressed that I had to wait but I was happy to just look out at the amazing view. At 7:40 we were shown to our seats overtop the harbour. I loved the view! We had a great server who was well groomed, polite and seemd happy to serve us. We received bread and a really interesting paste to spread on top - I couldn't quite tell what it was but I enjoyed it. We ordered our food and the appetizers came out shortly after. I had cauliflower soup and I really liked it - nothing fancy but it's cauliflower soup so I wasn't expecting anything fancy. My companion had the "scallops" although he only received one but he tells me it was good. Dinner came out a while later - I had the filet of sole stuffed with crab meat with mashed potatoes. My meal was amazing! The potatoes were a little cold but I wasn't too concerned as they were so yummy! My boyfriend had the duck breast on risotto. I had to laugh when I saw it. The pieces of duck were so tiny! About 2 inches X 1 inch and he only had two of them. He said they tasted good although he had too much risotto and couldn't finish it. He would have preferred less risotto and more duck. Dessert came shortly after - I had the wild-berry cheesecake, he had the chocolate souffle cake with gelato. The cheesecake was nice and light and had berries sprinkled around. The chocolate cake was pretty much a tiny brownie was a child-spoon sized dollop of ice cream. The ice cream was delicious though! As we went for Winterlicious our dinner cost $35 each, with 2 glasses of wine, a bottle of spring water, and gratuity that was already calculated in the price it came to $127. I loved the place and would go back again - my partner was not as impressed as all his orders were tiny. The view was amazing, the decor wasn't bad and our server was great!
Fantastic view and very cozy ambiance.The our server Andrea was very attentive and gentle. The fresh pasta to die for .If you like italian food ,Toula is the place for you.
great view,absolutely amazing,we arrived from new york city,usually used with fine dining and excellent service,but this was a great experience.we didnt have a reservation,i asked the hostess for a window table,they made us wait for 5 min,while waiting a gentlemen brought us a gllass of prossecco,we were wery impresed,we sit down,the waiter ,i got to tell u was incredibly knowledged,we even joked since he was wery big and had a thick voice, we called him a soprano cast member,anyway, i come in toronto maybe 20 or 30 times a year,but this meal was exepcional,only problem too far from the hotel were i stay at yorkwille,so cant wait to go there again.I cant believe the reviews i read above,well,mr torontonians who dont know how the proper baguette taste,or dont know that tiping is a great american habit to appreciate someones service,everyone has a bad day in life,give it another shot.take care!!!!
I"m going to be very biased here. I was at Toula last night for Winterlicious. The menu was not very appealing so I decided on the Beef Filet in the menu which was very tender and portion was just right. However, service was TERRIBLE. The gentleman never introduced himself, we didn't even know his name and it's supposed to be fine dining. He rushed us to get our drinks and orders and when I inquired about whether there were time limits he actually told us that he was trying to turn his tables. What PROFESSIONAL waiter says this? He asked us if we wanted water and he came by with a bottle and poured us both a glass. He never came around to pour again. End of dessert time he saw my empty glass and did not even ask me if I wanted another. Then they charge us $7.50 for the water. It's absolutely ridiculous. Even though I really appreciated the food, the service was just terrible. He mixed up our orders - both main AND dessert. Our bill was well over $200 (two people) and he still tried to rush us out. I will NEVER go back again.
This is by far the worst restaurant experience I had thus far. Let’s begin with the fact that they got my reservation wrong and tried blaming me for it. I made reservations for eight people on a Saturday night at 19:00 hrs. They had it down on Thursday instead. There was no way that I could have made this mistake since no one in my group could make it on a weekday. When I insisted on having my original reservation, I was told that the only available time slot was 17:00 hrs. I reluctantly accepted. Imagine my surprise when the restaurant on the night of my dinner was only half full at 19:30 hrs. Now let’s talk about the food. Would you like raw shrimps wrapped in Prosciutto?? How about over cooked salmon with under cooked risotto?? Stone hard lamp shank with day-old polenta was the winner!! And I bet you would rather finish your dinner with President’s Choice dessert instead. During the course of the night, we were ignored by every server that walked by our table. No one even bothered filling our water glasses. So why was service so bad?? Well, because gratuity ($50) was already included in the bill. I guess when you know you will be paid no matter what; there would be no point to make any effort at all. Think that was the end of the story?? Three days later, I got a call from my VISA company about an unauthorized transaction. Care to guess who put this unauthorized transaction through?? That’s right, Toula!! They decided to charge my credit card twice. I leave it up to you to decide whether or not to visit this restaurant.
